Western Washington alum Bethany Drake breaks Husky Track javelin mark at Ken Shannon Invitational...

SEATTLE—In a very low-key prelude to Saturday’s Ken Shannon Invitational at Husky Track on the University of Washington campus, 2016 US Olympic Trials qualifier and former NCAA Division II champ Bethany Drake (above/photo by Paul Merca) won the women’s javelin competition Friday in a new facility record.

Drake threw 176-7 (53.83m) to break the old record of 176-2 (53.71m) set by Stanford’s Mackenzie Little two years ago at the Pac-12 championships.

Her mark is the 12th best in the United States so far this season, pending the outcome of other meets around the country this weekend.

In the only other finals Friday, Washington redshirt Onyie Chibougwu won the women’s hammer at 195-10 (59.71m), while the Huskies’ Connor Jost won the men’s hammer at 176-2 (53.70m).

At the Oregon Twilight meet in Eugene Friday at Hayward Field, former Renton resident Devon Allen won the 110 hurdles in 13.42 to set a new meet record, and ran 10.29 to set his second meet record of the evening to win the 100.

Rainier Beach HS grad Michael Berry won the 400 in 46.62, while Tacoma’s Marcus Chambers won the 200 in 20.99.

In the men’s 1500, Gonzaga’s Mason Villarma was 12th in 3:45.91, while teammates Scott Kopczynski and Brandon Pollard finished 15th (3:47.24), and 21st (3:48.48), respectively, in the two-section final.

Spokane native Tanner Anderson, competing for the University of Oregon, was 24th in 3:49.77.
