All five of Washington’s NCAA Division I schools make their outdoor track & field season debuts this Friday and/or Saturday at various venues on the West Coast.

Both the University of Washington and Washington State University head down to Los Angeles for the USC Invitational that begins Friday on the campus of the University of Southern California.

The opening of the outdoor season will give those athletes, particularly those competing in the three long throws—javelin, hammer, and discus—the opportunity to throw, as the majority of them competed sparingly, if at all, during the indoor season.

Washington State will also have athletes competing at the Buc Scoring Invitational, hosted by Whitworth University in Spokane.  Those athletes will join athletes from both Gonzaga and Eastern Washington in the opening outdoor meet for the Bulldogs and Eagles.

Seattle University opens its outdoor season Friday and Saturday with the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open meet in Portland, hosted by Lewis & Clark University.

The only two Washington Division II schools in action this weekend are Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin’s.

The Falcons head south to Sacramento for the Hornet Invitational hosted by Cal State Sacramento, while the Saints head to Portland for the Lewis & Clark Spring Break meet.

On the post-collegiate side, Washington State alum Jeshua Anderson heads to Tucson, Arizona for the Willie Williams Classic Friday, where he will run the 400 hurdles.  Anderson won the last of his four straight Pac-10 titles in the 400 hurdles in Tucson in 2011.
