PAC-12 MULTIS BEGIN SATURDAY AT HUSKY TRACK

In Seattle, the Pac-12 track and field championships get underway Saturday at Husky Track with the multi-events competition Saturday and Sunday.

Alissa Brooks-Johnson of Washington State, the defending champion, looks to retain the title in a battle with 2014 champ Amalie Iuel of USC and Norway, though she has not completed a heptathlon this season, only competing in three events at the Mt. SAC Relays Multi-Event meet last month.

Brooks-Johnson was held out of the UW/WSU dual meet due to a back problem that surfaced at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Washington State’s Liz Harper and Lindsey Schauble will also contest the heptathlon, while CJ Smith is the host Huskies’ lone competitor.

Arizona’s Pau Tonnesen, who was the runner-up at both the NCAA indoor and outdoor multi-events competition, looks to defend his Pac-12 title. Tonnesen, who represented Spain at the IAAF world championships in Beijing last summer. has scored 7993 points in his lone decathlon so far this season, in winning the Jim Click Shootout last month.

Dino Dodig of Washington State, who was fifth last year, is the Cougs’ lone representative, while the Huskies will counter with sophomores Cole Jensen and Josh Gordon.

Action gets underway at noon at Husky Track, while day 2 of the multis begins at 11:30 on Sunday.  Admission to the Pac-12 multi-event competition is free; however, parking will be at a premium due to the Opening Day of boating season, along with the Windermere Cup crew races being contested on the Montlake Cut.
